Six brand-new stations – Crows Nest, Victoria Cross, Barangaroo, Martin Place, Pitt Street, and Waterloo – now welcome commuters, offering seamless connections to key employment, financial, and retail hubs.

What’s Next?

While City & Southwest is a major achievement, the Sydney Metro project is far from over. Here’s a glimpse of what’s on the horizon:

• Bankstown Conversion: The existing Bankstown Line is being converted to metro standards, with upgrades to stations and tracks. This will integrate it with the City & Southwest line, creating a continuous metro line from Tallawong in the northwest to Bankstown in the southwest. This stage is expected to be completed in 2024.
• Sydney Metro West: This ambitious project will connect Parramatta to the Sydney CBD via a 24km tunnel with ten new stations. Tunnelling is well underway, with the first of three tunnel boring machines launched in 2023. Expected completion is slated for 2030.
• Western Sydney Airport Line: This line will link St Marys to the new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport at Badgerys Creek, with six new stations along the way. Construction commenced in 2020 and is expected to be operational in time for the airport’s opening in 2026.
